TAMPARULI: The Tamparuli division of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) has officially decided to nominate a candidate for the Tamparuli constituency in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) under the Barisan Nasional (BN) banner.
In a statement released following PBRS Tamparuli's annual general meeting yesterday, the decision to nominate a candidate was unanimously approved by party delegates.
Former PBRS Tamparuli chief Hendary Luaran, 55, was elected unopposed to lead the division, securing his position as the PBRS-BN candidate for Tamparuli in the PRN17.
The statement highlighted Hendary's candidacy, noting his extensive 22-year affiliation with the party, including 13 years as division chief.
"The youth, women's wing, and delegates unanimously agreed to nominate Hendary Luaran as the BN candidate for Tamparuli in PRN17.
"PBRS Tamparuli hopes this proposal will be endorsed by the central BN leadership," the statement read.
PBRS, which is part of Sabah's BN coalition alongside Umno, has 40 branches and nearly 5,000 members in the Tamparuli constituency.
In response, Hendary expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him.
"I am honoured by this nomination, which reflects the loyalty, sacrifices, and contributions I've made over the past 22 years with the party. If given the mandate, I am ready to take on the responsibility and work towards securing a victory," he said.
Meanwhile, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has nominated incumbent Tamparuli Assemblyman, Datuk Jahid Jahim, 66, as its sole candidate for PRN17.
Jahid is a seasoned leader who has played a key role in maintaining strong PBS support in Tamparuli.
