KUALA LUMPUR: Former MIC vice-president Datuk C. Sivaraj has returned to the party more than a year after leaving.
Sivaraj told FMT that he was informed earlier today that his application to rejoin the party as an ordinary member was accepted.
"I want to express my gratitude to party president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran, deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and the other central working committee members for supporting me to rejoin the party and for providing me the chance to serve the party again."
Sivaraj said it was now business as usual and that he would work with the party's leadership to strengthen MIC.
MIC information chief Datuk T.R. Thinalan confirmed that Sivaraj's application to rejoin the party had been accepted.
In June last year, Sivaraj resigned from MIC, saying that his decision would allow him to focus on his responsibilities as a senator and as a leader for the Indian community without any restriction from any party, including the MIC leadership.
He had said several incidents under Vigneswaran's leadership that forced him to make the decision.
The following month, reports emerged that Sivaraj was considering joining a multi-ethnic party.
Earlier this month, Vigneswaran had said the independent senator wanted to rejoin MIC.
Vigneswaran was quoted as saying that former members only had to hand in a written request to rejoin the party.
