KOTA BARU: Barisan Nasional assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani who won the Nenggiri by-election by a majority of 3,352 votes, will take his oath of office in October.
Kelantan State Assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said the new assemblyman would take his oath during the upcoming state assembly sitting.
"Normally, a new assemblyman will take his oath of office in the next state assembly sitting which will be held after he won the contest," he said.
The next Kelantan State Assembly sitting will be held for five days beginning Oct 24.
On Aug 17, BN captured the Nenggiri state constituency after its candidate Azmawi won the Nenggiri by-election against Perikatan Nasional's Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.
Azmawi garnered 9,091 votes while Rizwadi received 5,739 votes.
Azmawi led with a majority of 3,352 votes, more than three times the majority garnered in state elections in August last year.
Before the by-election, there were 45 assemblymen in the Kelantan state assembly comprising 43 from Pas and two from BN.
With Azmawi's victory, the number of BN representatives in the assembly has increased to three.
Besides Azmawi, the other two BN representatives are Galas assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim who is also the state opposition leader, and Kota Lama assemblyman Dr Hafidzah Mustakim.
