MELAKA: The State Legislative Assembly Speaker's Office will hold a special meeting next week to deliberate on the status of Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhamad Jailani Khamis.
The meeting is being held following Jailani's failure to submit an official explanation over his decision to leave Umno and join Pas after the 14-day-long period for him to do so ends today.
Melaka Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum confirmed that he did not receive any response from Jailani, who was formerly the state Tourism, Culture, and Heritage committee chairman.
"There has been no response from him (Jailani) despite the deadline (14 days) ending today.
"I will call a team from the Speaker's Office, including the State Legal Advisor, for a special meeting sometime next week to discuss the next course of action," he said when contacted today.
Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan last month confirmed that Jailani became a member of the party in June last year, after an application made by the latter on June 10.
Last night, Umno announced that the party will initiate legal action against Jailani.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the legal action aims to claim RM100 million in compensation, as stipulated in the agreement against representatives who have left and betrayed the party's stance.
