KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today hinted that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will likely use the PAS logo in the Nenggiri state seat by-election in Kelantan.
The Bersatu president alluded to this when he called on all party leaders and members to continue supporting its candidate in the August 17 by-election, even if the party contests using the Pas logo.
"We will swarm Nenggiri with support, even if Pas' logo is used," he said at Bersatu's convention today.
Muhyiddin, who is also the Perikatan Nasional chairman, added that he is upbeat that Bersatu will win Nenggiri in the by-election.
The Pagoh member of Parliament came to such a conclusion based on the sentiment of the people, which he said has increased in favour of Perikatan Nasional over the years.
"Nenggiri is our next battlefield. Based on the people's sentiment, we will win the state seat.
"I don't even want to think about losing (the by-election)," he said.
He nevertheless reminded Bersatu leaders, members as well as the party's election machinery workers to not take lightly the by-election.
"Let us develop a strategy and prepare our election machinery for the by-election.
"I also want all Bersatu divisions around the country to go down and help us during the campaign period for the Nenggiri by-election," he said.
The Nenggiri by-election was called after the Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the state seat previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim vacant.
Mohd Azizi, who is also the Gua Musang MP, is among the seven elected representatives sacked from Bersatu for declaring their support for the unity government.
During the Kelantan state election in August last year, Mohd Azizi secured a slim majority of 810 votes to win Nenggiri in a straight fight against a Barisan Nasional candidate.
Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man recently confirmed that Nenggiri will be contested by a candidate from Bersatu.
Prior to the announcement, PN was enveloped in uncertainty after leaders from Pas and Bersatu wanted their respective parties to contest the by-election.
Gua Musang Pas chief Azman Ahmad called for Bersatu to give way to the Islamic party to reclaim the seat won by Mohd Azizi, who was formerly with Bersatu.
