Nenggiri drama: Ex-assemblyman's court move put on hold

KOTA BARU: The lawyers for former Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azizi Abu Naim have postponed their plan to file an application challenging the Kelantan State Assembly's decision.

Originally scheduled to file the injunction at the Kota Baru High Court today, the lawyers delayed it due to certain issues, likely pushing it to tomorrow.

"We need to compile a few other documents before applying," said one of Azizi's lawyers.

As of 10am, the court had not received the application, confirmed a spokesman at the court's central counter.

"The lawyers can either submit the application here or do it online. It is up to them," he added.

Azizi recently announced plans to challenge Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah's declaration of the Nenggiri state seat vacancy.

Mohd Amar declared the seat vacant last Wednesday, following a notification of Azizi's termination received on June 13, paving the way for a potential by-election in Kelantan.

The Election Commission (EC) is set to hold a special meeting on June 28 to address the Nenggiri by-election.

EC Secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak confirmed receiving the official notification from the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly Speaker about the unexpected vacancy of the N.43 Nenggiri seat.
