KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu has revoked the membership of six elected representatives, effective immediately.
Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said it issued notices to the concerned members, initiating their expulsion without delay.
"In pursuant of the directive issued by Bersatu's supreme council which convened on June 7, 2024, and after informing the Perikatan Nasional leadership council, which convened last night (June 11), immediate notices have been given today to the six wakil rakyat who violated Clause 10.4 of the Bersatu constitution," he said in a statement.
When citing the case of Labuan member of parliament Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman's membership, Hamzah said the party has terminated Suhaili's membership under clause 10.2.6 of the Bersatu Constitution last month.
"The notice that his (Suhaili's) membership was ceased was sent to him earlier, on May 17, 2024."
Hamzah said the process adhered to the foundation of party constitution and country's law under Article 49(A) of the Federal Constitution and/or under the related state government law.
There were six Bersatu MPs who went rogue since last year. They were Suhaili, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi.
On March 6, Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari of Bersatu also shifted his allegiance to the unity government.
Last night, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said that the party will also send a letter to the Dewan Rakyat, Selangor and Kelantan state assemblies speakers "as soon as possible" on the status of its rogue representatives who shifted allegiance to the unity government.
Muhyiddin had also said that they will first send notices to the seven representatives in the next day or two that their memberships have ceased.
