KUALA LUMPUR: A man has faced significant backlash after recklessly falling asleep at the wheel during a traffic jam on Old Klang Road here, forcing other drivers to exit their vehicles and wake him up, raising serious safety concerns.
In a TikTok video shared by user @jaizahir, the man is seen asleep in his vehicle with his arms crossed, blocking the busy road.
Another motorist repeatedly knocks on his window, urging him to "wake up" as his car obstructs the flow of traffic.
The video captures the chaotic scene, with other vehicles maneuvering around the stranded car.
Eventually, the man wakes up and waves his hand, acknowledging the situation and signalling he will move.
The caption notes that he only stirred after nearly five minutes of attempts to rouse him, when he realised he was being filmed.
The video has since gone viral, amassing over 360,000 views and 5,000 likes, sparking a lively debate among netizens about road safety and driver responsibility.
User @nininunu7092 suggested that the man might not have intended to fall asleep and could have health issues, while @ridhwanabdsahar pointed out that, regardless, it remains "dangerous for other road users."
@gojo99999 remarked that the man couldn't have experienced "microsleep" since he was crossing his arms, and @jamil_iskara added that even if he wanted to sleep, he shouldn't have done so in the middle of the road and should have "found a parking spot first."
