KUALA LUMPUR: A man along the Sungai Klang riverbank in the city centre had a lucky escape from the rising waters on Friday, thanks to an unlikely source.
With the water level rising, an excavator driver near the Pasar Seni MRT station moved in to help rescue the man.
A video clip showing the excavator driver lowering the machine's bucket, with the man entering the bucket to be rescued, has since gone viral on TikTok.
In the clip, the man, holding a bag, was seen walking to the bucket and entering it before the excavator lifted him to safety. Once rescued, the man coolly walked off.
The video, posted on TikTok by social media user Haulan31 on Sunday, has since been viewed more than 300,000 times and received over 350 comments.
It remains unknown what the man was doing along the riverbank, with many speculating that he was a vagrant.
The excavator driver came in for praise from social media users, with some even asking if the driver was open to giving rides in the bucket.
Among the commenters were @NurulAin_3171 who wrote: "I'm currently pregnant. If I ever get a craving to get into one of those buckets, can I call you?"
Another commenter, @ManisManje, wrote: "Can you take me for a ride on this? I can save some money instead of going on the swings at the Escape Penang theme park."
However, social media users were surprised that the man did not make any attempt to thank his rescuer.
