JOHOR BARU: Investigations into the alleged jewellery theft at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) is ongoing but hindered by the lack of CCTV coverage.
Yesterday, an over four-minute footage on TikTok uploaded by user @sarawanannagayah on Aug 17, went viral.
The footage alleged that the hospital's CCTV were not functioning, and called
upon the health ministry and prime minister's office to rectify the issue.
The video also narrates how P. Saroja allegedly lost a gold necklace, after she was rushed to the hospital's emergency and trauma unit in an ambulance on July 25.
The 63-year-old woman was asked to remove her jewellery to undergo an X-ray. She realised her gold chain was missing, later.
She lodged a police report and was allegedly told by an investigation officer that there were no CCTV footages, which was among the challenges faced by the police to identify the culprits behind the alleged theft.
Meanwhile, State Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon said the hospital's management was aware of the theft allegation.
"In the video, it claimed that the closed-circuit cameras were not functioning.
"I just need to clarify that there are no CCTV installed in patient care areas to protect patient privacy.
"Thorough investigations will be conducted internally as well and the hospital management has given their full cooperation to police to facilitate investigations," Ling said in a statement yesterday.
