KUALA LUMPUR: A man's clever use of fire to force out a monitor lizard from a toilet has sparked mixed reactions from netizens.
The one minute and 14 seconds long video on TikTok posted by user hyuga_namikaze showed the man lighting a fabric wrapped at the end of a wooden stick, and sticking it into a toilet bowl.
The man then proceeded to spray aerosolised fuel at the lit fabric, intensifying the flame, to force out the lizard before capturing it.
Many comments shared their experience of seeing such lizards, a common appearance in neighbourhoods nationwide.
"This is a small one, let it stay there", says user ridhoseftian96.
"Wait until it is bigger, it will have its revenge", says user 5silv3rbull3t.
Some were delighted by Gorgon, hyuga_namikaze's cute nickname for the lizard, based on the monster from the popular television series Ultraman.
"Is this the season of Gorgon entering bathrooms? I had one this week, and it entered through the window", said user eyqaaaaae.
"Watch, as a group of men is battling a Gorgon. Wow, incredible", said nobodyknows, mimicking a documentary.
However, some were less amused and pointed out the danger that the tactic posed due to the flammable gas emanating from the sewage pipe.
"Don't do that. If the gas from the sewage pipe explodes, then you will learn", chided user Alif firdaus443.
"Using fire near a toilet is very dangerous, if done incorrectly it may explode", says user max_chong75
While such a case is yet unheard of in Malaysia, a build-up of methane gas from a toilet is flammable and, if it accumulates, could cause an explosion or fire.
