KUALA LUMPUR: Entrepreneur and influencer Khairul Aming has warned netizens that a video being circulated claiming his warehouse was flooded and that he needed to sell frying pans to cover losses is fake.
In an Instagram video, Khairul said the video uses an artificial intelligence-generated voice that sounds like his to deceive the public.
"So the voice you heard earlier is not Khairul Aming's voice. It is an AI voice that scammers are using to deceive the public.
"They are using it to sell all sorts of things like frying pans, Apple watches, blenders and so on," he said.
Khairul said his face image had also been misused in many ways and the situation has gone out of control.
He urged people to be more careful, as fake claims are becoming increasingly common with the misuse of AI.
"You might come across posts that appear to be from someone, but they are not. Be cautious and don't trust things easily," he warned.
He said he only sells two food products, which are Sambal Nyet and Dendeng Nyet.
"I don't sell anything else besides Sambal Nyet and Dendeng Nyet. I don't sell Apple products, gadgets or anything of that sort," he said.
Khairul said the issue was becoming more common on Facebook, and urged people to carefully consider their purchases.
In the comments section, netizens shared their own experiences with similar deep-fake scams.
Instagram user @syakila.hamzah_ said: "There are many more instances where Khairul Aming's videos have been edited. I have seen it many times on Facebook, but anyone who knows him will recognise that the video is not real. Please report it!"
Another user, @aizatulizwana, commented that on Facebook, many people were using Khairul's face.
"My mom even forwarded a message asking us to buy it because it was supposedly promoted by him."
Meanwhile, user @craftfreak6688 added: "I almost fell for it! I thought it was real,"
Another user, @smshahiran, urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to take action against such fraudulent activities.
