The price of love is rising wedding costs

JOHOR BARU: Wedding costs are expected to rise by 20 per cent this year due to an increase in logistics expenses.

Wedding planner Jeslina Ngatman, 50, who has been in the industry for 20 years, said while wedding costs have risen almost every year, the increases have been gradual rather than abrupt.

She said the increase is unavoidable due to the rising costs of logistics and goods.

She said couples could opt for simpler wedding ceremonies to make them more organised and cost-effective.

"In the past, most weddings used to invite around 1,000 guests, but now couples are limiting the number to between 200 and 500 guests.

"What's important is for couples to choose experienced wedding planners to ensure a smooth event.

"This is because, in an attempt to save money, some couples have fallen victim to scammers and other issues.

"They can consider budget wedding packages."

Jeslina, the founder of Mega Legacies Enterprise, said her company offers wedding packages starting from RM12,000, which include catering for 200 guests, decorations and venue rental.

She said budget packages are increasingly popular due to financial and economic factors.

"We've organised budget weddings in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, and Sabah.

"These packages are also a popular choice among couples from Singapore," she said, adding that her company offers four wedding halls and venues in the city.

She said this at the 27th Dunia Raja Sehari Wedding Carnival at Angsana Mall.

Meanwhile, Noor Diana Hashim, the carnival organiser, said more than 50 booths will feature wedding planners, bridal boutiques, catering services, photographers, canopy rentals and wedding gifts.

Sponsors include Madu Power and Mega Legacies.

"In addition to the exhibitions, we are holding held a children's bridal fashion show, a charity programme for orphans, and a session on neurological health with professional masseur Mazli Hamzah.
