Two women killed, two others injured after car plunges into ravine

MARAN: Two women were killed, and two others seriously injured after the car they were travelling in fell into a 6m-deep ravine at Km152 of the East Coast Expressway 1 near Felda Nerek here today.

State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said they received a distress call at 11.07am and 16 firemen from the Maran and Temerloh fire stations were deployed to the scene.

"The Nissan Almera ferrying the victims had plunged into a ravine. Four women were trapped inside the vehicle and firemen used rescue tools to extricate the victims from the vehicle.

"Two people died at the scene and their remains were handed to the police, while two others were taken to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh," he said.

Maran district police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai confirmed the accident, adding that police will issue a statement after receiving a detailed report on the incident.
