KUCHING: A 58-year-old man was killed when his house on Jalan Stampin Baru here collapsed early this morning.
In the 2.30am incident, the body of the victim, identified as Lim Inn Tong, was found under piles of rubble and debris.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department's operations centre spokesman said they were alerted to the incident at about 2.50am.
He added that a team of eight firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene, located about seven kilometres from the station.
"Upon arrival, the team was informed by members of the public that a victim was trapped inside the collapsed house.
"The team searched through the rubble and managed to locate an unconscious man beneath the debris," he said.
The spokesman said the victim was extricated at 4.05am and pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene.
The body was then handed over to the police for further action.
"An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the incident," he added.
