TUMPAT: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized various types of cosmetic products worth RM93,000 packed in several boxes abandoned near an illegal jetty in Pengkalan Kubor here yesterday.
No arrests were made during the 11.15am seizure.
GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said GOF personnel were conducting a routine patrol when they spotted several boxes abandoned near the illegal jetty.
"Upon inspection, they found cosmetic products in the boxes.
"The items, worth approximately RM93,000, are believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand for local distribution," he said.
In a separate case, a 52-year-old lorry driver was arrested with 570kg of Thai rice in Bachok yesterday.
Nik Ros Azhan said the man was passing through Bachok town when he was arrested at around 11am.
"Upon inspecting the lorry, GOF personnel discovered 570kg of Thai rice, valued at approximately RM2,300.
"The lorry driver, a local, was then arrested. It is believed that the man was hired by an individual to transport the Thai rice to local buyers," he said.
