Kelantan flood evacuees surge to 882, Sungai Golok breaches danger mark

KOTA BARU: The flood situation in the state has worsened as the number of people relocated to relief centres doubled, with the water level in Sungai Golok breaching the danger mark.

According to the Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal, the number of flood evacuees in the state surged to 882 as of last night, compared to 368 in the morning yesterday.

All evacuees, comprising 267 families, were relocated to 19 relief centres activated in Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, and Machang.

Of the three districts, Tanah Merah was the worst affected, with 633 people evacuated, followed by 165 in Kuala Krai and 84 in Machang.

All agencies in the state have been fully mobilised to face another round of flooding, which began yesterday.

The portal also showed that the water level in Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang has breached the danger mark this morning due to the continuous heavy rain since yesterday.

As of 7.30am today, the water level of the river reached 9.11m, which is 0.11m above its danger level of 9m.
