KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry confirmed that no Malaysians were aboard Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, which crashed after veering off the runway at Muan International Airport in South Korea this morning.
All 181 passengers and crew members aboard the plane were feared dead except two people plucked from the wreckage.
The plane was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members.
Video showed the Jeju Air plane from Bangkok landing on its belly, skidding off the runway as smoke streamed out from the engines, before crashing into a wall and exploding in flames.
In a statement, the ministry said through the Malaysian Embassy in Seoul that it was closely monitoring the aftermath of the tragedy that occurred at 9.03am.
"The Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul has confirmed that no Malaysians were on board the aircraft.
"Malaysia extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims and families affected by the incident, as well as to the people and government of the Republic of Korea."

The crash is believed to have been caused by "contact with birds, resulting in malfunctioning landing gear" as the plane attempted to land at the airport in
