Thai singer to replace detained Malaysian artiste in song recording

KOTA BARU: Thai singer Deqnee Dusongnyo is set to replace the dikir barat artiste currently being held in remand at Narathiwat Prison, Thailand.

A renowned producer and composer said that Deqnee Dusongnyo will team up with Den Manjo, Man Khan, and Rosalinda to perform the song originally meant for the detained female singer.

It is scheduled for recording next week.

The composer said the song was initially set to be recorded on Nov 3, but the studio session was postponed following the Malaysian singer's arrest by Thai police during a raid in Sungai Golok on Nov 1.

"I chose Deqnee Dusongnyo because her vocals are suitable and closely resemble the singer's voice.

"I know she (the Malaysian singer) wishes to resume her career upon her release, and perhaps the genre of the songs she performs may change depending on her preference," the composer said during the Northeast Monsoon Flood Aid Mission for fishermen at Pesisir Pantai Sabak yesterday (Dec 27).

The composer said he has composed new songs for the artiste and plans to record them once she is released.

He said the last time he spoke to her was on Oct 31 regarding her songs' lyrics.

"Since her detention at Narathiwat Prison, I have been keeping tabs on her case and have been informed that she has begun to adjust to her situation compared to before.

"Insya-Allah, I will visit her there in January," said the composer.

It was reported the 29-year-old singer from Kelantan was among the six people arrested during a raid at a hotel in Sungai Golok on Nov 1.

They were detained to assist investigations into the seizure of 6,000 tablets of a drug believed to be methamphetamine.

They are placed under remand for 84 days, or nearly three months, to assist with the investigations.
