TANGKAK: Two investigation papers have been opened following the appearance of the Chinese flag on a rocket replica at the LED Light Festival in the compound of the Bukit Gambir Multipurpose Hall here.
Tangkak district police chief, Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib, said the investigations are under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He said the police received a report yesterday expressing dissatisfaction over a picture of the rocket replica bearing the Chinese flag.
"It happened at a multipurpose hall in Bukit Gambir, here, during the LED light festival that was broadcast on Facebook.
"The report was made because the residents of Bukit Gambir felt uncomfortable with the presence of the rocket replica with the Chinese flag," he said in a statement.
Therefore, Roslan advised the public not to engage in unlawful acts.
He also said that the police have already called the organisers to provide statements and assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Bukit Gambir assemblyman Sahrihan Jani said in a statement that Ledang UMNO Youth had lodged a police report regarding the incident yesterday.
He said he had been in contact with the Tangkak District Council (MDT) since the issue went viral to express concerns that this matter could cause public unease.
"I stress proactive measures, including cancelling the permit and the event, if the organisers did not adhere to the guidelines set by MDT and the authorities.
"I reiterate the call for strict actions to be taken, including court prosecution against the organisers and immediate cessation of the carnival operations. Any apology is insufficient to cover this wrongdoing.
"The community in Bukit Gambir highly values harmonious and united living, respecting each other's cultural customs and beliefs," he said.
