JASIN: Police have confirmed that four female Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) students were involved in this morning's accident at KM187.6 northbound of the North-South Expressway near here.
Jasin police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Jamil Radzi said the two deceased were 19-year-olds Nurul Syafiqah Nasruddin and Nurhanis Afryna Azizan, who were the front left and rear left passengers.
He said the other two victims, car driver Nur Hanis Suraya Supiyan, 20, and the rear right passenger Azwalidiya Azman, 21, sustained injuries to their legs and minor cuts.
Jamil said preliminary investigation indicated that their car had skidded off the road and no other vehicles were involved.
"The accident is believed to have occurred when the car, travelling from Johor to Melaka, skidded and collided with the left guardrail at KM186.7 of the NSE.
"As a result of the crash, the front passenger and the rear left passenger died at the scene from serious head injuries, as confirmed by attending medical staff," he said.
Jamil said the accident was believed to be caused by the driver's failure to control the vehicle, and further investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He said the two deceased were taken to Jasin Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while the two injured students were treated at the emergency department of Melaka Hospital.
