KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcycle owner suffered losses amounting to tens of thousands of ringgit after the vehicle caught fire during a fire show at the Kuala Lumpur Bike Week last Saturday.
The incident occurred at KL Heritage Valley near Jalan Doraisamy and escalated quickly, resulting in a minor fire at the event venue. The incident, captured on video by attendees, went viral on social media the same day.
In a Facebook posting addressing the situation, organisers confirmed the cause of the fire.
"A small fire broke out at the Kuala Lumpur Bike Week yesterday (Saturday), caused by sparks from the fire show. The sparks landed on the organiser's motorcycle. No injuries were reported," the post read.
A video lasting less than a minute shows several individuals attempting to extinguish the flames using fire extinguishers.
As of press time, neither the motorcycle owner nor the event organisers have released an official statement.
Netizens expressed disagreement with the organiser's decision to hold a fire show which could potentially endanger visitors.
"If you're going to do a fire show, at least be considerate. Keep it away from the motorcycles, and away from the stage. Thankfully, no lives were lost. Before this, KLBW had no history of incidents. Let this be a lesson - better safe than sorry," said user Fir Daus.
"Let this be a lesson - there's no need for fire shows during motorcycle events in the future," said user Shiela Rodzi.
