ALOR STAR: Sultan Abdul Halim Airport's runway, which was closed since Nov 29 due to severe floods, will reopen tomorrow.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) announced the reopening in a statement on Facebook, crediting its staff for their tireless effort in restoring operations.
"We are pleased to share that the runway (will be) reopened after its temporary closure due to flooding. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff for their tireless efforts in ensuring the runway's readiness," it said.
It advised passengers to check with their airlines for updated flight schedules.
On Friday, MAHB issued a travel advisory on the runway's temporary closure following the issuance of a civil aviation authority notice by the authorities.
Yesterday, Sultan Abdul Halim Airport manager Ikram Alif Mansoor said between 20 and 24 inbound and outbound flights to and from the airport had been cancelled during the runway closure.
No major damage has been reported to the 2.7km runway, which was submerged under 50cm of water, while the taxiway was inundated with 80cm, he said.
