Kindergarten teacher dies after cobra bite [WATCH]

BATU PAHAT: A kindergarten teacher who was bitten by a black-necked spitting cobra has died this morning, five days after battling for her life.

Aznon Sapin @ Mohd Said, 56 was confirmed dead at 7.20am, after being unconscious since her admission to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital on Tuesday night.

Her daughter, Nur Fatihah Najwa Hamsan, 26, said the incident occurred at 8.30pm while Aznon was tidying up in the kitchen.

"A day before, we had a 'merisik' ceremony for my younger sister, Nurul Shuhada. The next day, after isyak prayers, my mother went into the kitchen to arrange the plates and items used for the ceremony.

"Not long after, my mother ran into the living room, calling for me and asking for help. At that time, I was putting my child to bed in the room.

"I asked her what had happened and she said her foot had been bitten. I immediately went out and saw blood between her toes," she said when met at Masjid Jamek Kampung Batu Puteh Darat in Parit Sulong today (Dec 7).

Fatihah said her mother then told her she could no longer move and her vision was blurring.

"My mother couldn't move, so I gathered all my strength to help her into the car. Throughout the journey, she groaned in pain, but I could only ask her to recite the syahadah.

"My mother was already unconscious when we arrived at the hospital. Doctors performed CPR on her for 10 minutes before she began to respond.

"The doctors told us that her heart had stopped briefly before she was moved to the intensive care unit for further treatment. My mother was in the ICU for three days before she was transferred to a regular ward.

"However, she remained unconscious, but could hear us and shed tears when we spoke to her."

Fatihah said the family had gone on a trip to Cameron Highlands, which they now remember as the last time they spent together.

Aznon was laid to rest after Zohor prayers.
