KEMAMAN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will activate the Jualan Rahmah Madani initiative in flood-affected areas nationwide, particularly in Kelantan and Terengganu.
Its minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, said the Jualan Rahmah Madani sales initiative would be implemented in these locations to help residents purchase goods at prices 10 to 30 per cent lower than the market rate.
"Although the Jualan Rahmah Madani schedule has been set, we will activate it in flood-affected areas to assist the community in accessing affordable goods," he said.
Earlier, Armizan visited 83 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination candidates affected by the floods at SMK Air Jernih today.
During the event, he also distributed food aid boxes to students who had to sit for their Bahasa Melayu oral examination at SMK Chenih Baharu after access to the exam centre at SMK Air Jernih was submerged.
Also present were deputy director of education (School Management Sector) Rosli Chik and Terengganu KPDN director, Saharuddin Mohd Kia.
In a related development, Armizan announced that KPDN had approved the delivery of essential goods from unaffected regions to flood-hit areas for 635 designated district wholesalers (DDW).
He added that the approval covers not only the supply of essential items but also mobile fuel services, including diesel and petrol distribution through the ROVR mobile refuelling service.
"This contingency plan aims to prevent supply disruptions, thereby curbing excessive price hikes caused by reduced stock availability," he said.
Armizan said 635 DDWs and 1,359 designated district retailers (DDR) were appointed to store goods at 30 per cent above their usual capacity to ensure adequate supplies.
Regarding non-governmental organisations (NGOs) sourcing goods for flood victims, Armizan encouraged aid providers to obtain supplies from regions unaffected by the floods.
