27 GOF outposts, 10 police stations along Sungai Golok under water

PASIR MAS: A total of 27 General Operations Force (GOF) posts and 10 police stations, mostly located along Sungai Golok river, have been inundated.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said floodwaters have risen by more than 1 metre in the 37 outposts and police stations.

"The 10 flooded police stations are in Pasir Mas, Tumpat and Kota Baru. They were closed two days ago and all officers on duty have been moved to other places," he told reporters after visiting the Repek police station here today.

On the GOF's posts, Yusoff said some of the GOF personnel had been evacuated to flood relief centres.

Despite this, he said the personnel would carry out their duties as usual.

"They were told to carry out their duties as usual using boats," he added.

On another note, he advised residents in low-lying areas of the state capital Kota Baru to be prepared as floods were expected to enter the town and its surrounding areas anytime.

"Seeing the latest trend, waters from the rivers in interior areas have started flowing down here. We expect floodwaters to increase to about two metres high within one hour," he added.
