'I heard victims' voices after landslide, but couldn't do anything', says neighbour

KUALA BERANG: Danial Arabi, 36, the first individual to arrive after a landslide at Jalan Bukit Apit, Ajil, Hulu Terengganu said he heard the victims' voices asking for help, but he couldn't do anything because he didn't know their whereabouts.

Danial, is a neighbour to three individuals that were trapped during the incident that occurred at 4.30pm today.

The landslide crushed three houses, including the house where all the victims lived and two other houses that were under construction.

According to Danial, he was resting when he was startled by a loud crash and rushed out to see what had happened.

"As soon as I went outside, I saw the landslide that had crushed three houses, including the house where a family of six lived.

"I immediately went there and saw one victim trapped and I also heard voices calling for help. I then contacted the police and the fire department to report the incident," he said when met at his home.

It is understood that the house was inhabited by a family of six, but at the time of the incident, the mother was not inside the house.

The fire and rescue department received a call at 4.59pm, after which the Kuala Berang and Wakaf Tapai Fire and Rescue Department teams were rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
