ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar's official residence Seri Mentaloon in Jalan Anak Bukit here was hit by floods this evening.
Pictures of the two-storey house's compound being inundated by floods were uploaded by Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's officer Zulkifli Yahaya on Facebook about 6.30pm.
However, the Jeneri assemblyman was away visiting his constituents at a temporary flood relief centre (PPS) at SK Kampung Betong in Sik when the floodwaters began seeping into Seri Mentaloon, based on Sanusi's Facebook page update about 7pm.
According to the Menteri Besar's special officer for media, Helmi Khalid, Sungai Anak Bukit, located less than 100 meters behind Seri Mentaloon, began overflowing to the official residence's compound early this morning.
"The river behind the official residence began to overflow early this morning, initially flooding the staff quarters located metres away from the riverbank.
"The water level then continued to rise, entering the living room, kitchen, and dining area of the official residence. Currently, the water in the kitchen has reached a depth of 0.5 metres," he said when contacted.
Helmi added that Sanusi and his family are still residing in the official residence.
He said this is not the first time Seri Mentaloon has been flooded as similar incident occurred during the major floods of 2010.
"Flooding last September also caused water to enter the residence, but the situation this time is worse," he said.
The floods situation in Kedah is getting worse today with 6,037 people in six districts including the state's capital district Kota Setar, were evacuated to 49 PPS as of 8pm today.
