KUALA LUMPUR: The number of residents affected by floods across seven states — Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Perak, and Selangor — has continued to surge, reaching 77,154 victims from 23,867 families as of 10am today.
According to the Disaster Info portal from the Social Welfare Department, authorities have opened 509 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) in 27 districts nationwide.
Kelantan continues to report the highest number of flood victims, with 60,060 individuals from 18,727 families sheltered in 225 PPS across 10 districts in the state.
In Terengganu, 13,064 flood victims (3,861 families) are currently taking shelter in 234 PPS operating in eight districts.
Meanwhile, Kedah has opened 33 PPS in five districts, accommodating 2,294 victims (799 families).
In Negri Sembilan, 9 PPS are operational across two districts, housing 1,117 victims (302 families).
Perlis reports 397 flood victims from 118 families spread across 4 PPS in three districts.
Selangor has established 2 PPS, with the number of flood victims rising to 161 from 40 families.
In Perak, two districts are also managing 2 PPS that shelter 61 victims from 20 families.
Of the total flood victims, 25,181 (32.64 per cent) are adult males; 26,896 (34.86 per cent) are adult females; 11,679 (15.12 per cent) are male children; 11,225 (14.54 per cent) are female children; 1,154 (1.5 per cent) are male infants; and 1,019 (1.32 per cent) are female infants.
Additionally, there are 2,690 elderly men (3.49 per cent) and 3,120 elderly women (4.04 per cent), 1,300 male persons with disabilities (1.68 per cent) and 758 female persons with disabilities (0.98 per cent).
Currently, the capacity of the evacuation centres stands at 44.43 per cent of their total accommodation capability.
