TANAH MERAH: Making the wrong forecast can be costly as villagers in Kampung Pondok Baru Padang Siam here learned the hard way since they had to urgently call in the services of a tow trucks to save their cars as a last resort when the current monsoon wave started splashing at their doorstep.
One resident, Hasmira Muhammad Yusof, said she had to fork out RM800 to save her two cars from the deluge because the flood in the village happened beyond expectations.
"This area is actually on high ground where floods rarely occur, which is why we didn't move our vehicles earlier.
"Some residents managed to move their cars and some didn't while many forked out big bucks to hire a tow truck because the water level had already risen thigh-high," she said here today.
"So, no choice, I was forced to spend RM400 to use this tow truck to avoid incurring an even bigger loss," said Hasmira, adding that some 15 cars were taken out by tow trucks.
Another resident, Norshim Noordin, 36, said the water rose to as high as 0.4 metres at a last glance over the shoulder.
"Many residents used the tow truck with fees charged from between RM100 to RM400 for a vehicle," said Norshim.
