ALOR STAR: Padang Terap became the latest district in Kedah affected by flash floods, forcing 32 people from nine families to seek temporary shelter at Dewan Kampung Baru, Padang Sanai.
Padang Terap Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Roshidi Kassim said seven settlements were affected, including Kampung Labi, Kampung Tanjung Kanan, Kampung Seberang Padang Sanai, Kampung Baru Padang Sanai, Kampung Banggol 9 and Kampung Kubang Juluk. Even the Padang Sanai police station was not spared.
"Twenty-seven people from eight families in Kampung Baru Padang Sanai and five residents from one family in Kampung Banggol 9, Padang Sanai, have been temporarily relocated to the community hall," he said when contacted today.
While no official flood relief centres (PPS) have been activated in the district yet, the flash floods, which began at 11am today, were triggered by heavy rainfall since the previous evening.
Meanwhile, in Kubang Pasu district, 16 victims from five families across four villages were evacuated to a PPS at SMK Changlun due to flooding.
Kubang Pasu APM officer Mohd Adenin Suhaimi confirmed that the affected villages include Kampung Nangmah, Kampung Paya Nongmi, Kampung Belakang T-Hotel, Kampung Nang Mah and Kampung Kubang Lintah.
