ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah continues to increase, as flooding in Baling worsens despite improvements elsewhere.
Up to 4pm, the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said 2,438 evacuees from 749 households were sheltering at 20 flood relief centres, up from 2,058 this morning.
In Baling, the number of evacuees surged to 642 from 210 families at eight centres, a steep rise from 69 evacuees at 8am.
Kota Setar remains the worst affected, with 1,112 evacuees from 335 families at eight centres, down from 1,238 earlier.
Pendang has seen a slight decrease, with 505 evacuees from 138 families at two centres, compared with 507 earlier.
Kubang Pasu's numbers have also dropped, from 146 to 108 evacuees from 38 families at one centre.
Pokok Sena recorded 71 evacuees from 28 families at one centre, down from 98 evacuees from 36 households earlier.
In Sik, all 78 evacuees from 34 families at two centres were allowed to return home.
Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department's Public Infobanjir website showed that three rivers in Kota Setar and Baling had breached their danger levels.
