KUALA LANGAT: The Immigration Department has moved its Kuala Langat office to a more user-friendly location at Pusat Perdagangan Banting here.
Immigration Department deputy director-general (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha said the move followed various complaints involving the cramped environment at the old office which was located along Jalan Cempaka Sari.
"We had received several complaints through the Public Complaint Management System (SISPAA) that the previous building did not have adequate space as well as parking issues.
"The old office was also located on the second floor which made it difficult to access for the handicapped and elderly," he told reporters following the launch of the new office here today.
He said the old office had been operating at Jalan Cempaka Sari for 12 years before they moved to Pusat Perdagangan Banting last week.
"Previously, we were only capable of serving an average of 50 passport applicants daily, but we have since doubled our capabilities at this new office.
"The parking situation is also less crowded here and we plan on enhancing our operations to include Temporary Work Visit Pass (PLKS) applications," he said.
Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin was also present at the event.
Jafri said he hoped the new office would be more conducive and beneficial for the 300,000 people living in the district.
"The office will be open between 8am and 5pm from Monday to Friday and offer passport renewals and new passport applications.
"We are currently capable of serving 100 applicants because we are relying on mobile internet services, but once we have a proper broadband line installed in December we will be capable of serving more," he said.
Jafri said last year, they issued 16,615 passports at Kuala Langat which amounted to an average of 1,384 passports issued monthly.
