MARANG: Two salesmen were killed after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in with two other friends was involved in an accident at KM45, Jalan Kuala Terengganu - Kuantan, near Pasir Putih, this afternoon.
In the accident, which occurred around 4.30pm, the victims were identified as Ahmad Farid Izwan Mohd, 24, from Durian Guling, Kuala Terengganu, and Muhammad Amir Ikmal Hashim, 20, from Dato Shah Bandar Housing, Pekan Pahang.
Marang district police chief, Superintendent Mohd Sofian Redzuan, said that at the time of the incident, all the victims were reportedly on their way from Kemaman towards Kuala Terengganu.
He added that upon reaching the scene, the vehicle the victims were in is believed to have skidded after hitting a water puddle, causing it to veer off to the left side of the road.
"The vehicle then collided with a tree, and both victims, who suffered head and arm injuries, were confirmed dead at the scene.
"The two other victims, who were injured, were sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu for further treatment," he said.
Mohd Sofian also said that the bodies of the two victims were sent to the Forensic Department of Dungun Hospital for further investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.
