JOHOR BARU: The Johor 2025 Budget is expected to focus on key incentives for economic development, social welfare, infrastructure, sustainability and youth-focused programmes.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will table the surplus budget themed "Maju Johor, Rakyat Sejahtera" (Progressive Johor, prosperous people) on Nov 21.
Sources told the NST the budget would retain the core six pillars in the Maju Johor manifesto.
The six pillars are governance, economic development, social safety nets, facilities and basic needs, safety, cleanliness, and environmental sustainability and Johor youth.
Onn Hafiz is also expected to introduce initiatives targeting specific demographics and sectors, including the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and the Special Financial Zone (SFZ).
The JS-SEZ agreement, to be signed on Dec 9, is expected to position Johor as a powerhouse for crossborder investment and development.
Several key initiatives from last year's budget, such as Jualan Kasih Bangsa Johor (necessities sold at discounted prices), housing and infrastructure upgrades and tourism improvement, are likely to continue.
The Semarak Subuh programme, a Friday communal prayer attended by members of parliament and assemblymen, is also expected to continue.
In anticipation of Visit Johor Year 2026, allocations for tourism infrastructure, promotional campaigns and incentives to enhance travel experiences and increase visitor numbers are also expected to be announced.
The menteri besar may announce programmes to showcase Johor's culture, nature and heritage to elevate Johor's appeal as a top destination in the country.
The Johor Budget 2025 is anticipated to mark a strategic step towards short-term welfare improvements and long-term economic resilience.
