KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is prepared to host the First Coordinating Meeting between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia at the Foreign Minister level to further discuss cooperation between the two countries.
Anwar said he had met with the Crown Prince and Saudi Arabian Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, before returning to Cairo.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said they had discussed various aspects of the Malaysia-Saudi Arabia relationship that need to be expanded, particularly in areas such as trade and investment, including cooperation in new fields like artificial intelligence (AI), green economy, clean energy, and petrochemicals.
"We also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
"I expressed my appreciation for the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly in organising the Extraordinary Summit of Arab and Islamic Countries, as well as the ongoing efforts to assist oppressed Muslim brothers and sisters.
"I also took the opportunity to invite the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia to attend the ASEAN-GCC Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
"I am optimistic that the strong ties between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia will contribute to the prosperity of the people of Malaysia as a whole, Insya-Allah," he said.
