KLUANG: A cafeteria worker's bid to return an envelope containing hundreds of ringgit in cash that she found in Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom has drawn purportedly dishonest claims from individuals.
Kamariah Hassiam, 49, spotted the cash-laden envelope while cleaning the hospital cafeteria. She turned to social media to help find the owner.
Kamariah said that since her post, she had been contacted by two individuals who claimed ownership of the money.
However, they failed to provide specific details about the envelope, which led her to believe that they were attempting to exploit the situation.
"Don't try to take advantage. We don't know if the real owner desperately needs this money or going through a tough time," Kamariah said, adding that it was important to be honest.
Security camera footage revealed two families dining at the cafeteria where the envelope was found., Kamariah hopes that those families might step forward.
To verify ownership, she has invited them to contact her at 018-2984697 with details about the envelope and its contents.
"If the rightful owner doesn't come forward within a week, I'll donate the money to a mosque," Kamariah said, adding that she would replace the amount should the owner later come forward.
The incident has sparked debate on social media, with Kamariah's original post quickly gaining traction as people offered support and criticised those attempting to claim the money under false pretences.
