KOTA BARU: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has reminded officers of all ranks to stay away from corruption and misconduct.
He said getting involved in immoral behaviour would tarnish the image of the force and would not bring any good to officers and their families.
"The rank given to a police officer is a very heavy trust. We will be questioned in the afterlife if we fail to fulfil our responsibilities.
"The trust given is not for accumulating wealth as all this is only temporary.
"Do not get involved in wrongdoing. Even if it's just RM50. If it does not belong to us, it is not good for us to take it."
He was speaking after witnessing the handing over of duties for the state police chief here today.
Ayub said senior police officers must be sincere in handling corruption cases.
"What state we serve in is not important because we all have our own responsibility and role.
"No matter how big or small our efforts are, we must fight corruption and misconduct among police officers."
On the upcoming northeast monsoon, he said police was prepared for the monsoon season that is expected to begin next month.
"Police have held a few meetings on this. Our manpower, assets and others are ready.
"In Kelantan, more than 1,000 officers are on standby."
Kelantan deputy police chief Deputy Commissioner Mohd Ali Thamby handed over the duties of Kelantan police chief to Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
In his speech earlier, Ayub said he was confident Yusoff would fulfil the mandate given to him wisely.
"As the 28th state police chief, I am sure he will continue maintaining excellence.
"To ensure he can achieve his goals, all police personnel in the state must support him."
