KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in five states until 2pm today.
MetMalaysia, in a post on its Facebook page, said adverse weather is expected in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Johor as well as Sarawak.
The weather, the department said, is expected to affect 10 districts in Kedah including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu.
The warning in Perak covers the Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Kinta districts.
In Johor, the affected districts are Kluang, Pontian and Kulai.
As for Sarawak, the weather is expected to affect Mukah, Bintulu and the Subis district in the Miri division.
"The warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, expected to last for an hour or more.
"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert that remains valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance."
