IPOH: Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming is leaving the investigation over the waving of a Chinese flag at Dataran Menara Condong in Teluk Intan last week to the police.
Nga, who is also the Teluk Intan member of parliament, said the public should respect the police and its investigation.
"For me, this issue is for the police to take action according to the laws of our country.
"I believe the state police chief (Datuk Azizi Mat Aris) has issued a statement.
"We leave it to the authorities and respect the legal process," he said when met by reporters at a media night organised in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations last night.
Earlier, Azizi had said police recorded statements from 20 individuals, including the organisers of the Global Guan Gong celebration and 16 Chinese participants believed to be involved in the flag-raising incident.
He was quoted saying that the organiser had a permit approved on Oct 2 but violated permit conditions by allowing foreign nationals to participate in the parade.
As a result, he said, the case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the National Symbols Act 1949 for raising a foreign flag in a public place and Section 4(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for violating permit conditions.
The investigation papers will be referred to the prosecutor today for further action.
Yesterday, Azizi said police will call the organisers of the 'Raise the Jalur Gemilang" event at Menara Condong in Teluk Intan, as the gathering did not have a valid permit.
He said police have opened an investigation file regarding the gathering on Saturday which involved over 300 individuals.
The case is being investigated under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
