KUALA LUMPUR: The public must refrain from inciting sentiments related to race, religion and royalty (3R) following the recent flag-waving incident in Perak.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said there have been 3R-related comments on social media about the incident.
"I acknowledge the statement from the Perak police chief (Datuk Azizi Mat Aris) saying the investigation is ongoing and I leave it to the police to carry out the investigation.
"I also personally read the 3R-related comments circulating on Facebook and TikTok.
"I would like to remind everyone to avoid making statements that are inciting and related to the 3R issues.
"The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is currently investigating and collaborating with the police to identify those who are attempting to incite in this issue," he told a press conference after the Malaysia International Healthcare (MIH) Megatrends 2024 collaborative announcement event today (Oct 26).
When asked if the matter was discussed during the cabinet meeting yesterday, Fahmi replied: "The cabinet did not discuss the issue as the incident was identified during the meeting and no report was presented."
A video of a group of participants waving China flags during a festival in Teluk Intan, Perak has gone viral on social media since Thursday.
Yesterday (Oct 25), the Guan Gong Cultural Association of Malaysia apologised to all Malaysians for the incident. It happened during the International Guan Gong Cultural Festival.
Its chairman Soon Boon Hua had said that the act of waving the flag of another country was never planned in the programme's itinerary.
Meanwhile, on the issue of a Facebook group which is sharing pictures of schoolgirls wearing baju kurung uniforms, Fahmi said the MCMC is currently working with Meta and Bukit Aman's Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) to verify the group and identify the ongoing activities.
"If there are any violations to the law, action will be taken. The MCMC will assist in data preservation and profiling," he said.
Yesterday, the MCMC said it will take action against a Facebook group which is sharing pictures of schoolgirls wearing baju kurung uniforms.
In a short reply to an X user who had highlighted the group in disgust and asked for action to be taken against it, the MCMC said it had taken note of the posting.
The commission was also in the process of taking the appropriate action.
In the original post, the user who flagged the group had asked how it could have existed for three years, asking if the fact that it has more than 6,000 members means that there were more than 6,000 paedophiles.
The user tagged both MCMC and Fahmi in the post.
