KUALA LUMPUR: Starting December, Grab will require its employees to work in the office five days a week, said a report.
Singapore's Channel News Asia (CNA) reported that the company informed its staff of this mandate during a townhall yesterday morning, and said the move was to facilitate more collaboration and interactions in the office.
Quoting Grab employees, the report said the work-from-office rule will begin Dec 2.
In an email to staff sighted by CNA, Grab chief executive officer Anthony Tan said the "increasing face-to-face collaboration will accelerate progress and enhance integration across our ecosystem and business units".
He also said returning to a five-day work week aligned with Grab's goals to do more for its mission and to drive faster growth. The company had practiced hybrid work arrangements for three years.
A one-month "adjustment period" would also be given to employees to make alternative plans for personal and other caregiving responsibilities.
A Grab employee told CNA that the company had planned this move since the middle of last year, and said Grab had been taking a stricter stance on working from the office since early this year.
Currently, she said, she only comes to the office three times a week, and works two days from home.
"They said there would be disciplinary action against those who don't comply (with return-to-office mandates)," CNA quoted the employee as saying.
