KUALA LUMPUR: The Islamic legal opinions or 'pandangan hukum' on Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) by the Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) will be presented to the Conference of Rulers, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
The 267th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers is held today and tomorrow.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) presented a study during the MKI's 125th meeting held Sept 24 to 26, weighing and deciding on legal opinions related to GISB.
"It has been approved by the MKI chairman (Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak) and will subsequently be presented to the Conference of Rulers, which will convene from Oct 23 to 24," he said in response to a question from Dr Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun).
Zulkifli said to date, six states have issued rulings regarding GISB.
"Let us pray that we can preserve and protect the faith of Muslims in Malaysia," he said.
On Oct 18, Penang became the latest state to label the teachings and practices of GISB as deviant, joining Perlis, Selangor, Pahang, Sabah and Melaka.
On Sept 11, police raided 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan linked to GISB over alleged cases of child exploitation and abuse.
GISB has since denied the allegations.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the operation, codenamed Op Global, had uncovered cases of neglect and abuse, leading to the detention of several individuals associated with GISB.
