KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry is reviewing several critical issues, including the demanding 30-hour work shifts for doctors.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkelfly Ahmad emphasised the need to address broader concerns, such as the supply and demand of medical professionals and the allocation of human resources.
"We need to understand the existing gaps and shortages before providing effective solutions.
"It's essential that the budget reflects the needs of our healthcare workers," he said at a press conference following the Disaster Management Conference yesterday.
Additionally, the ministry will investigate hospitals with reports of bullying among medical staff, particularly in light of the recent death of Dr Tay Tien Yaa at the Lahad Datu Hospital.
A special task force initiated on Oct 10 will focus on understanding the circumstances surrounding her death and expand its inquiry into bullying cases across other healthcare facilities.
Earlier, during a press conference on Oct 2, the family of Dr Tay alleged that she faced mistreatment, including excessive work hours, which they believe contributed to her tragic decision to take her own life.
