Sultan Nazrin a 'strong advocate for stronger ties', praises Hsien Loong

SINGAPORE: Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed his appreciation for the visit of Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak, whom he described as a committed proponent of bilateral relations.

"I thank Sultan Nazrin for being a longstanding and strong advocate for stronger ties between Singapore and Malaysia, including Perak," Lee said in a post on Facebook.

According to Lee, the meeting at Sri Temasek marked a continuation of the longstanding relationship between the two leaders.

They last met in Kuala Lumpur in July at a dinner organised by the Kuala Lumpur Business Club, of which Sultan Nazrin is the Royal Patron.

Lee further expressed his hopes for a productive visit and looked forward to future engagements.

"I wish His Royal Highness a fruitful visit to Singapore, and look forward to meeting him again before too long!" he added.

During Lee's visit to the Kuala Lumpur Business Club, he stated that the two countries must not let issues between them become politicised.

"But all in all, both sides have made significant progress in our relationship over the decades. We should appreciate how hard-won and precious this progress has been – both the specific things we have achieved, and the overall good state of our relationship. It is not at all to be taken for granted," he noted in his speech.
