SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Zakat Board received business zakat totalling RM3.9 million from Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) Group for the financial year ending 2023.
PNB Group chairman Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Tun Uda presented the zakat to Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during a ceremony at Istana Bukit Kayangan today.
Present were Selangor Zakat Board deputy chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, Selangor Zakat Board chief executive officer Sabirin Mohd Sarbini, Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof and Selangor Mufti Datuk Associate Professor Anhar Opir.
"This year's zakat payment is more than last year's, which is proof of the blessings (PNB Group) received after fulfilling its zakat obligations," Sabirin said after the ceremony.
He said both business and individual zakat payments rose this year.
"Business zakat collection has increased, exceeding last year's total.
"More new companies are paying zakat and existing companies are making higher contributions.
"Individual zakat collection in the third quarter rose five per cent compared with last year."
