Speaker to MPs: Don't miss the Nov 11 deadline for health check-ups

KUALA LUMPUR: Members of Parliament (MPs) have been reminded once again to undergo medical check-ups as soon as possible.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said that MPs would have until Nov 11 to complete their medical assessments at government facilities, including Parliament clinics.

"Some MPs have already completed their check-ups, but for those who have not, I urge you to do so.

"The final deadline for these check-ups is Nov 11, and you may contact the Parliament doctor for further information," he said.

In the previous Parliament session, Johari said that any MPs failing to undergo a medical check-up would have their names published on the Parliament's website.

Meanwhile, Johari said the implementation of a "sugar-free day" would commence every Wednesday in Parliament to promote a healthier lifestyle.

"This initiative will involve both Parliament staff and MPs, aligning with our shared commitment to healthy living," he said.

The initiative, set to run from Oct 14 to Dec 12, follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call to monitor excessive sugar consumption in the country.

Anwar said that Malaysia's status as the country with the highest diabetes rate in Asia was concerning.

Despite discussions on artificial intelligence, industrial growth, and high-quality education, he said health awareness among Malaysians remained alarmingly low.
