Asean strengthens digital transformation cooperation with South Korea, Japan

VIENTIANE: Asean aims to enhance cooperation with South Korea and Japan in the fields of digital transformation, human resources, and supply chains, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

During the 25th Asean-South Korea Summit commemorating the 35th anniversary of dialogue relations between the two countries, the prime minister expressed Malaysia's support for the proposed establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with South Korea.

"Asean encourages collaboration in digital transformation, including capacity building, skills enhancement, and strategic human resource diversification," he stated.

South Korea was represented by President Yoon Suk-yeol at the summit.

At the same time, the prime minister mentioned that Asean supports the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula, including the initiative announced on Aug 15.

Yoon previously launched a vision for reunification with North Korea, promising to expand access to outside information in the closed-off country and proposing official dialogue channels to discuss any issues.

Meanwhile, at the 27th Asean-Japan Summit, the prime minister called for strategic cooperation between the regional bloc and the Land of the Rising Sun to strengthen supply chains and advance artificial intelligence (AI).

Japan was represented by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

The Asean summits with South Korea and Japan took place during the 44th and 45th Asean Summits and related meetings at the National Convention Centre here.
