Flash floods and landslide force 76 to be temporarily moved to two PPS

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Seven houses including two homestays were hit by mud floods following heavy rain and a landslide at Tanah Rata here yesterday, forcing 76 people to be evacuated to two temporary flood relief centres (PPS) here.

Cameron Highlands police chief Deputy Superintendent Azri Ramli said 43 people from eight families at Kampung Sungai Ruil and Golden Hill Brinchang were moved to the Sungai Ruil Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) office.

"The district police headquarters were alerted about a landslide incident and flash floods at Kampung Sungai Ruil and Golden Hill Brinchang about 5.35pm yesterday. The landslide resulted in seven premises to be inundated by mud floods.

"All the eight families were instructed to temporarily move to the Jakoa office here. Clean-up works are ongoing," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the Cameron Highlands Disaster Management Committee, in a statement, said the temporary relief centre at Kampung Sungai Ruil community centre currently has 33 people from six families.

The committee advised the public not to speculate on the flash flood and landslide incident by sharing unverified information, and images on social media.

Meanwhile, Tanah Rata assemblyman Ho Chi Yang said no casualties were reported and the victims at the relief centres will be provided all the necessary assistance.
