KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has reaffirmed its firm stance that it will not tolerate bullying in schools.
In a brief statement to the 'New Straits Times', the ministry reiterated its consistent position on the matter following the alleged bullying case involving the son of Rustam Mustafah (Tam), the lead singer of the rock group Spider.
"The ministry has zero tolerance for bullying and the minister (Fadhlina Sidek) has been unwavering in this stance.
"The ministry will also allow the police to carry out their investigation into the matter," it said.
Yesterday, it was reported that Tam's 14-year-old son had been a victim of bullying at a boarding school.
The 51-year-old also expressed disappointment with the school's lack of awareness and failure to take action against the bullying problem.
Following Tam's revelation, several other parents from the same school came forward with similar accounts.
Police yesterday said five reports in connection with the issue had been lodged.
Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizme Affendy Sulaiman said an investigation paper had been opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
He also said the police had recorded the victim's statement.
